Christmas holidays: exceptional traffic on the roads this Saturday, December 23, nearly 900 kilometers of cumulative traffic jams

Before enjoying their loved ones for the holidays, French motorists will have to be patient, bogged down in the kilometers of traffic jams which paralyzed French roads mid-morning this Saturday morning.

The extent of the traffic jams far exceeded Bison Futé's expectations at 12 p.m.: there were nearly 900 kilometers of cumulative traffic jams on the roads, while the organization predicted at worst 332 kilometers of paralysis. The A10 motorways, leaving from Île-de-France, and A7 in the Rhône department, had respectively more than 50 and 32 kilometers of traffic jams. The organization advises avoiding the A6 motorway between Beaune and Lyon, and the A7 motorway between Lyon and Orange from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In 2017 at this same period, also on Saturday December 23, traffic was much less, since there were 242 kilometers of traffic jams on French roads by mid-morning.

Bison Futé also predicts heavy traffic jams around shopping areas, Saturday and Sunday, as the French rush to buy their last Christmas gifts.
