The door from the film Titanic, which saved Rose from drowning but doomed Jack following the ship's sinking, has found a new owner. Twenty-six years after its release on screens, the legendary piece of wood remains an essential part of James Cameron's film. It was sold at auction for more than 660,000 euros during Treasures from Planet Hollywood dedicated to Hollywood cinema accessories.
During this event organized by Heritage Action, more than 1600 accessories were sold. Among the most famous, Harrison Ford's whip in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) reached the 480,000 euro mark and Jack Nicholson's ax in The Shining (1980) climbed to 115,000 euros. Just like the dress worn by Kate Winsley in Titanic, which sold for the same price.
This auction brought in around 14.3 million euros. A great success. “From start to finish, most lots exceeded expectations thanks to the more than 5,500 bidders who participated from around the world,” the auction house said.
