The French institution preferred the culinary epic Le Festin by Dodin Bouffant to boost France's chances in the best international film category. A decision that many interpreted as a sanction against Justine Triet who violently attacked the government's cultural policy in Cannes.

The fact remains that Hollywood has not followed the CNC. Since its release in the United States in October, Anatomy of a Fall has garnered rave reviews, revenue (nearly $3.7 million) and accolades. The trial film won several Gotham Awards, a National Board Of Review award and numerous honors from film journalism associations.
