Who hasn't spent a long time wandering around the house trying to find their keys, or has ever left their purse or wallet forgotten somewhere. Mistakes of this type, so common, have a technological ally that is quite affordable and easy to use, the so-called tags or locators.
The operation of these devices is very simple, since most emit a low energy Bluetooth signal that can be captured by other devices, so it is possible to know a fairly approximate location.
Although in 2021, when Apple launched its AirTags, there were already other brands on the market, as is often the case with the apple firm, its arrival in this segment energized it. AirTags have become a successful product for those from Cupertino due to their low price and functionality, being able to place them on the keys to always have them located, in the wallet or in a suitcase during a trip, among other options.
To locate each object, the user will have to open the Search application on their iPhone and will see its location, although AirTags also have a built-in speaker and it is possible to make them ring to find them. Additionally, if what you are looking for with the AirTag is nearby, the Precision Search function allows you to see the distance and exact position thanks to ultra-wideband technology. The battery is a CR2032 lithium button cell designed to last approximately one year. They sell for 39 euros each, with the accessories to carry it on the keychain, for example, separately.
Another technology giant that has recently renewed its smart tags to locate objects is Samsung. SmarTags2 feature a Lost Mode feature that allows users to enter their contact information via message so that anyone who finds it can use their NFC-enabled phone to scan the tag and view the message with the owner's contact information. . As with Apple, in the case of Samsung its tags also offer a compass display function with arrows that show the direction and distance at which the lost object is located. Using the Samsung SmartTag is done through the SmartThings Find app and the battery in each is also a button cell battery and lasts up to 700 days with power saving mode. They have a unit price of 30 euros on Amazon.
For users who don't have Apple or Samsung, options like Tile are a great alternative. The strong point of this brand is that it offers different label formats: keychain style, card-shaped to put in your wallet or even with a sticker, to stick on your TV remote, for example. These devices work with Android and Apple phones, but Tile also has a payment plan of 35 euros per year where it offers more options to users, such as receiving an alert if they move away from any of the tags. The most basic Tiles start at 20 euros.
In the case of Vodafone Curve, it will also be necessary to pay a monthly plan of two euros to use this device because unlike the previous ones, it works as a GPS locator that includes its own SIM. Its design is somewhat larger and its battery lasts much less, about seven days. To use it you do not need to be a Vodafone member, but you do need to have a mobile line and like the previous ones, it is designed to locate objects such as keys or a bag or wallet.
Another interesting proposal is that of Chipolo, which also has several locator options. The best known, Chipolo One, has a battery life of up to two years, is splash resistant, has sound and is sold in an interesting variety of colors. In addition, it is one of the cheapest options and is compatible with Apple and Android. They sell for 25 euros.
