The city revived Emperor Charles V's visit and his entourage of imperial guests

The Renaissance Festival, which began yesterday with the recreation of Emperor Carlos V's arrival in the city, kicked off. This event will continue until Sunday to commemorate the anniversary of Ubeda's declaration as Heritage of Humanity. The historic center was the starting point for a number of activities. This allows Ubetenses to experience a four-day journey through time.

Carlos I of Spain, V of Germany, and Isabella of Portugal, were accompanied by their imperial entourage. They left the Hospital de Santiago in a hushed atmosphere that gathered hundreds of people on the streets. The parade featured soldiers, animals, flag-bearers and many citizens wearing period costumes that represent groups, dance schools, or other formations. There were also representatives from the Ubeda Arquebuceros Company and musicians.

Francisco de los Cobos, his secretary from Ubet, received the Emperor upon his arrival at Plaza de Andalucia. He was seated under the Virgen De los Remedios niche, which is located beneath the clock tower. After swearing to preserve the privileges, charters, and favors that were granted to the city, fanfares were played in his honour, and there were dances and an exhibition of the group history, flag-bearers, of Italy.

The imperial march ended at the Vazquez De Molina square. This officially opened the festivities.

The Renaissance market, as well as the area of inns, began to operate. These latter were moved to the vicinity of the Eras del Alcazar because of the ongoing works at the Town Hall. There is also a stage that can be used to host concerts and shows during these four days. Yesterday, for example, the Rocio Dance School performed Renaissance dances.

There are also workshops, parades and recreations. Even a moment of terror.

Yesterday saw different sessions in the Hospital de Santiago's planetarium, as well as a conference about Francisco de los Cobos by Jose Miguel Gamez Salas. This was followed by a guided tour through the palace of Ubet's 16th-century great character. Parallel programming also includes the tours that are offered by local tourist companies every day for the past few days.

It is important to remember that Ubeda and Baeza were both included in the World Heritage List on Sunday, July 3. This UNESCO recognition marked a difference in the development of the municipality in many areas, such as tourism, heritage conservation and the creation of new jobs.

Different moments from yesterday's opening-day. ROMAN
