Significant increase in corona hospitalizations

The corona incidence is also increasing significantly in Hamburg - albeit at a comparatively low level. The health authority gave the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within six days on Tuesday at 333.59. Because of last week's national holiday, only a six-day period was considered this time. Last Wednesday the seven-day value was 263.1, the week before that it was 213.3. According to the information, 6353 new infections were added in six days. In the entire previous week it was 5010.

Due to different calculation bases, the incidence given by Hamburg is higher than that of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The RKI gave the seven-day incidence for the Hanseatic city on Tuesday as 317.5 – the lowest value in Germany. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence was 787.5.

However, the information only provides a very incomplete picture of the infection process. Since not all infected people have a PCR test done, a high number of unreported cases can be assumed. The health authority therefore stopped publishing the figures daily in May and has only given weekly overviews since then.

According to the authorities, the number of people infected with the corona virus in the hospitals in the Hanseatic city also rose to 329 (as of Monday). That was 144 more than last reported on Monday two weeks ago. 18 patients were treated in intensive care units - one less than two weeks earlier. According to the RKI, the hospitalization incidence, i.e. the number of corona infected people admitted to Hamburg clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, rose from 1.51 to 4.32 within two weeks. Nationwide, the value on Tuesday was 12.37. According to the RKI, 3077 people have died in Hamburg in connection with Covid-19 – that is 19 more than two weeks ago.
