Roof, lake, field, fence - the true solar potential of Germany

The aim is to triple the proportion of solar energy used to cover Germany's electricity needs to 30 percent in just eight years. An important protagonist of the plan is the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Freiburg. In a current fact paper, the institute argues that the expansion of the power grid does not stand in the way of solar planning.

Whether this plan will work is uncertain. One thing is certain: when it comes up, solar modules will be omnipresent. Even without the use of agricultural land, there is apparently enough unused space for solar modules to be used. This overview shows where we will soon see panels.
