"More U15 cases again" - The current corona numbers explained for you

All federal states were on a Corona reporting strike on Sunday.

The RKI reports exactly one new case – from Baden-Württemberg.

The 7-day incidence continues to fall, from 249 to 243.

It is now approaching the lows reached before the start of the first omicron wave (206 on December 29) and before the start of the summer wave (189 on May 30).

400 of the 412 urban and rural districts in Germany have an incidence of less than 500.

Of the twelve that rank above the 500 threshold, five are in Bavaria and four in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The overall incidence continues to decline - and it also continues to decline in the particularly vulnerable age group over 60.

In the U15 age group, on the other hand, the numbers rose last week by 2.4 percent to 21,401 - slightly and from a reduced level, but now for the second week in a row.

Increased testing after school starts again could of course be a reason, in this case the underreporting would simply be reduced without anything changing in the intensity of the infection process.

However, the tests in schools have not yet led to an overall increase in the number of PCR tests.

The number of PCR tests has fallen for five weeks in a row. Most recently, in the week before last, another twelve percent.

600 corona deaths were reported to the RKI last week - a good quarter fewer than the week before.

This is the third calendar week comparison in a row.

Every day we hear the new Corona case numbers. But what do they mean, where are we in the pandemic and what is the trend? Olaf Gersemann explains and evaluates the current figures briefly and concisely - every morning anew.
