The American Sloane Stephens, 35th in the world and seeded N.2, was sharply beaten by the Italian Lucia Bronzetti (102nd in the world) 6-1, 6-1 Friday in the semi-finals of the WTA 250 tournament in Rabat (land beaten). Bronzetti will be opposed on Saturday in the final to the Austrian Julia Grabher (74th).
Thanks to her performance against Stephens, finalist of Roland-Garros in 2018, the 24-year-old Italian will try to win her first title on the circuit. It will be the second final of his career after the one lost in Palermo in 2022.
In the first round of Roland-Garros which begins on Sunday, Bronzetti will be opposed to the Tunisian Ons Jabeur, 7th in the world and finalist last year at Wimbledon and the US Open.
His opponent on Saturday in Rabat, Julia Grabher, 26, dismissed Argentina's Julia Riera 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (8/6), and will play the first final of her career.
