Jannik Sinner, 9th in the world, defeated the resistance of Richard Gasquet (49th) 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, Tuesday in the first round of the Halle grass tournament, preparatory to Wimbledon. Despite good resistance, the 37-year-old Frenchman ended up giving in to the young Italian (21) on an ace and after 2:28 of the match.

Gasquet, who won his 600th victory on the circuit last week in Stuttgart, is one of four active players to have reached this bar, along with Rafael Nadal (1068), Novak Djokovic (1058) and Andy Murray (725, before to play Tuesday in the first round of Queen's).
