Strasbourg-Rennes: Sebas rekindled the flame, Terrier hid... The tops and the flops

TOPS

The Strasbourg striker produced one of the best Alsatian performances of the afternoon. However, Jérémy Sebas only entered the field in the 52nd minute of play. By replacing Emmanuel Emegha, the young Frenchman will have completely changed the offensive performance of the Alsatians. With his runs and his deep calls, he stretched a Rennes block which was already absent. He scored the break goal after a good run on a counter perfectly carried out by his team. He gets rid of Steve Mandanda by dribbling past the experienced goalkeeper and then places the ball between the two defenders who had thrown themselves to tackle and prevent this goal. He certainly scored points to have more minutes at the end of the season.

At the age of 29, the central defender brought all his experience to bear in this meeting. Frédéric Guilbert perfectly played his role as captain of RC Strasbourg in a defense with 3 central players. He prevented many Rennes passes from reaching their destination and often won his physical duels with opposing attackers. In the restarts, he was also very clean (44/52) to allow his team to quickly project themselves against. Not afraid to tackle, even in his area, the Frenchman often took risks but was rewarded on his last by succeeding in almost all his interventions (4/5). He infused energy into his entire block when it began to show signs of weakness. He can fully savor this precious victory in the race to maintain.

FLOPS

The Rennes midfielder produced a performance that is absolutely unlike him. In a match against the 12th in Ligue 1, Benjamin Bourigeaud was expected to shine in the midfield and to act as a link between the midfielder and his attackers. But he was stopped dead in his tracks, hampered by the authoritarian exits and several of the Strasbourg players at his feet as soon as he appeared near the surface. With his teammates too, he seemed to lack direction. He missed passes far too often that he was used to always slipping in at the right tempo. By looking over the defense for the other Rennes, the ball too often ended up in a corner or in the gloves of the opposing goalkeeper.

The French winger had almost as much trouble - if not more - than his compatriot in the middle in this meeting. Martin Terrier will never have come out of his hole and will have spent the meeting stuck to his line. Instead of going behind the Strasbourg defense, he waited for the ball at his feet for far too long. This lack of animation and depth was clearly felt among the Bretons. When in the second half he finally decided to move back into the middle to help his attackers, who served as a support point, he lacked accuracy and precision in his technical movements. Whether it was his passes or his shots (0/2 on target), almost everything he did never came to fruition. He also lost a significant number of balls (14) and duels (6/15 won) before giving way to Salah in the final minutes (83rd).
