Premier League: held back by West Ham, Liverpool loses big in the title race

The end of illusions? Three days after its defeat on the lawn of its rival, Everton FC (2-0), Liverpool FC let slip two points, this Saturday afternoon, on that of West Ham United (2-2), in opening of the 35th day of the Premier League, at the end of a pleasant match with several twists and turns. From the start of the match, the Reds took the game into their own hands, monopolizing the ball and patiently looking for gaps on the sides or a nice vertical pass between the lines. They (logically) dominated the first half, creating several clear chances, whether with Harvey Elliott (11th and 33rd), Trent Alexander-Arnold (21st), Cody Gakpo (39th) or even Luis Diaz (41st) . But despite numerous situations, Jürgen Klopp's men failed to make the difference...And the Hammers took advantage of it. Indeed, shortly before the break, on a corner on the left side played with two players, Jarrod Bowen placed a cross header which left Alisson (43rd) with no chance. David Moyes' players therefore returned to the locker room with a one-goal advantage, somewhat against the run of play.

In the second act, Liverpool FC brought more intensity and (above all) rhythm. A strategy that quickly bore fruit. Served by Luis Diaz in the penalty area, Andrew Robertson – taking advantage of a small hand error from Alphonse Areola – equalized in the 48th minute of play with a left-footed strike. The Reds continued to push. And shortly after the hour mark, they (logically) took the advantage with an attempt (off target) from Cody Gakpo deflected three times (65th). We thought then that they had done the hardest part. But that was without counting on the self-sacrifice (and talent) of West Ham. In the 77th minute of play, on a nice inspiration from Jarrod Bowen's left foot, Michail Antonio put the two teams back on level terms with an unstoppable uncrossed header. At the end of the match, Jürgen Klopp tried everything to get the victory, notably launching Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez. However, Liverpool FC failed to secure victory. And with this point from the draw, the Reds (3rd) have undoubtedly said goodbye to the title of champion of England.
