“During the period of the Olympic Games, tickets sold on buses will increase from €2.50 to €5,” indicates in a tweet published on Sunday by the association of transport users on their X account (ex-twitter). “For management reasons, the RATP plans that the driver will give two tickets but tear up one,” she continues, indignant. In the comments section, many Internet users share this feeling. “This is simply fraud! This circus around the Olympic Games is starting to piss me off,” wrote one of them, visibly exasperated.
Questioned by TF1, RATP confirms this decision. This avoids printing new tickets with the special rates that will be implemented in transport during the Olympic Games. From July 20, single tickets on the bus will cost 5 euros compared to 2.50 today. This is why, to be in good standing on the bus, “it will be necessary to purchase and validate two transport tickets”, indicates the RATP to TF1. In other words: buying two tickets from the bus driver will, during the Olympics, be like buying one.
“There will be two tickets which correspond to twice the unit ticket. Both will need to be validated,” underlines Île-de-France Mobility, also interviewed by TF1. However, it ensures that no ticket will be torn up by the driver. Faced with virulent criticism from certain users on this “unecological” choice, the RATP and Île-de-France Mobility assure that these are “repair” tickets and that they represent “less than 2% of sales” .
In addition to bus tickets costing 5 euros, metro tickets will cost 4 euros during this period. A Paris 2024 pass will also be available for 16 euros per day and 70 euros per week.
