Indianapolis Colts player Drew Ogletree was arrested Friday afternoon by local police in Hendricks County, Indiana. The American footballer was charged with domestic violence committed in the presence of a child under 16, as well as domestic violence resulting in moderate bodily injury, as reported by various media across the Atlantic including ESPN.
Ogletree, 25, drafted in 2022 in the NFL (National Football League) by Indianapolis, faces up to 2 and a half years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 for each of these acts. The NFL has suspended the player until further notice. He is prohibited from training with his team or participating in a match.
A native of Ohio, Ogletree was arrested following a previous incident on Tuesday, December 26. The police in Avon, a city located in Indiana, were dispatched to a residence to resolve a domestic problem between the American football player and a woman. The latter, who was “in pain” according to the report consulted by ESPN, said she was “tackled to the ground” by Ogletree. She was taken to hospital by an ambulance. Ogletree's 9-year-old son was reportedly present during the confrontation.
An arrest warrant was issued on Thursday, before Ogletree turned himself in to police on Friday. “We are aware of the disturbing allegations regarding Drew Ogletree,” his club Indianapolis said in a statement Friday evening. The team takes the subject seriously. We have informed the NFL and are currently gathering more information.” A tight end (or “tight receiver”) from Indianapolis, Ogletree had a blank first season due to injury. He has 12 appearances in the NFL.
