Returning to Toulouse in stoppage time (2-2) on Sunday during the 30th day of L1, Olympique de Marseille went through all the emotions like its coach Jean-Louis Gasset, “relieved” by the equalizer of Faris Moumbagna but “frustrated” by the management of his men when they led 1-0.
“I am relieved because equalizing in the 95th minute means that we are in the right state of mind but I am frustrated because we did not manage the match well at 1-0 when we had the match well in hand,” explained Jean-Louis Gasset after this fourth consecutive match without success in L1 (3 defeats). “The turning point is this equalization just before half-time,” regretted the former Ivory Coast coach without overwhelming his goalkeeper Pau Lopez, who was nevertheless guilty of a failed aerial exit from a corner which allowed Nicolaisen to equalize with a header without opposition.
“A mistake that happens to everyone,” said Gasset who, on the other hand, complimented Faris Moumbagna, author of the equalizer on a superb acrobatic scissor which reminded him of “Jean-Pierre Papin”. The young Cameroonian international allowed his team to push Benfica into extra time on Thursday in the quarter-final second leg of the Europa League before OM then won on penalties. He “is a player in the making” believes his coach. “It’s good for him and for his progress. He still has a lot of work to do but scoring two such important goals in four days is definitely a plus for his confidence,” he concluded.
