Barca sells 10% of its television rights 'in extremis’ for 207.5million

Barcelona managed to activate the first of two levers it approved at its extraordinary meeting two weeks ago "in extremis". Joan Laporta, the club's chairperson, has reached an agreement with Sixth Street North American Investment Fund for the sale of 10% television rights over the next 25 year. This alliance will allow it to close the year on a positive note as well as balance the accounts by June.

Eduard Romeu (Barca's economic vice-president), stated that they hope to receive 200 million for every 10 percent of the rights. It's done. Sixth Street has now signed the agreement and it complies fully with the conditions that the Blaugrana entity had established. It arrives before the June 30 deadline and allows the financial year's close with a capital gain in excess of 267 millions, as Barca stated through its website.

This is the first agreement that the Catalan club marked in red. It hopes to sell 25% of the audiovisual rights over the next 25 year in three packages, which in no cases would exceed 10% each. Sixth Street will be receiving approximately 16 million euros each year from LaLiga. This figure is what the North American fund hopes to continue rising and would enable it to raise about 400 million in the next quarter century, more than twice the amount that was disbursed in its initial form.

Barca will still need to activate the levers, even though this operation doesn't stop them. Joan Laporta stated that 600 million is what was needed. This amount is being forged though this agreement. However, there are still many steps to go. Barca continues to negotiate for the sale of 49.9% BLM, the company responsible for exploiting the retail industry. Laporta is hoping to receive, "being very conservative", between the 200 million and 300 million.
