Sunscreens should be prohibited in this vacation paradise

Any sunscreen with two of the most commonly used substances will in future be forbidden to smear themselves into the popular turiststrande in Key West, Florida, UNITED states.

The two chemical ingredients are Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (octinoxate) benzophenone-3 (oxybenzone) and are otherwise some of the most common in the dviserse sunscreen, both at home and abroad.

the Florida city of Key West has chosen to ban sunscreens with the two substances in order to protect the Great Florida Reef.

Several studies show that products with octinoxat and oxybenzone fall of badernes bodies and thus are left in the sea and damage the already-endangered coral reefs by, for example, to whiten them.

Key West Commission stands behind the ban. The ban take effect in January 2021, but it does not mean that there will be guards walking around and checking out the bathers.

instead, it means that sunscreens containing octinoxat or oxybenzone no longer will be sold in the area.

- There are thousands of sunscreens out there, and we only have a rev, the mayor of Key West, Teri Johnston, stated to the Washington Post.

- And we have an opportunity to make a little effort to protect it. I believe that it is our responsibility.

According to the Consumer council Thought, then the two substances are also endocrine. In a test carried out in June last year found the substances in products from Nuxe, Lancaster and Estee Lauder.

It is not only Key West, have banned sunscreens with these substances to protect the environment and the coral reefs. Also in Hawaii and in the Caribbean have recently introduced bans.
