The deadly attack on a septuagenarian in the North outrages the political class

The death of a septuagenarian, lynched by three young people in Vieux-Condé in the North, outrages the entire political class with the notable exception of LFI and the Greens. Among the Republicans, President Éric Ciotti denounces an “extremely violent” attack and asks that “the criminal response [is] up to it”. The elected representative of the Alpes-Maritimes, who has been pleading since the riots for a toughening of the sentences applicable to juvenile offenders, underlines that "the perpetrator is only 17 years old!".

The president of the National Rally also expressed his indignation: "Former florist appreciated by all, he had simply asked for a little calm: Philippe died of the beatings dealt to him by a group of minor criminals.", tweeted Jordan Bardella Tuesday at the end of the day. The MEP deplores in particular that his death did not provoke “media indignation”. The leader of the deputies RN Marine Le Pen, for her part, reported "a new victim of the savagery of France and the barbarism which is settling there".

Same tone on the side of the boss of Reconquest Éric Zemmour, who appeals to the French: "wake up!". And to condemn the lynching "to death" of the septuagenarian, "new victim of Francocide" - a formula that the former presidential candidate uses to designate "a crime committed on a Frenchman by a foreigner."

Within the NUPES, reactions are rarer. Guest of Europe 1 this Wednesday, July 12, the national secretary of the Communist Party Fabien Roussel wanted to come back to this "drama that occurred in [his] constituency", which he describes as "an act of barbarism". “I would like to express all my emotion and my anger. This is first and foremost what the inhabitants of this commune, and its mayor, David Bustin, feel. The member of the North calls in particular justice to be "extremely severe against the authors".

For his part, Olivier Faure denounces "the abominable lynching of a septuagenarian in Vieux-Condé". However, the boss of the socialists accuses "those who only think of settling accounts on the memory of a man" of "opposing the victims". And to add, in reference to Nahel, killed by a policeman in Nanterre on Tuesday June 27, that “no one deserves death at 17 as at 72”. On her Twitter account, environmentalist Sandrine Rousseau sent her "warmest thoughts" to the relatives of the septuagenarian, without mentioning the attack he suffered a week earlier.
