Last Generation encourages supporters to self-disclose

Two weeks ago, the Neuruppin public prosecutor had the homes of eleven members of the "Last Generation" searched. Reason: the initial suspicion of forming a criminal organization. The investigations were triggered by sabotage actions by the group on a pipeline in Schwedt. There, climate activists had tried several times since the spring to interrupt the flow of oil. The public prosecutor's office announced in mid-December that a "low, double-digit number of people" were accused.

As the "Spiegel" reports, the "Last Generation" is now reacting by calling on their supporters to report themselves en masse to the Neuruppin public prosecutor's office. Accordingly, an e-mail and an online form have been prepared for all supporters, which can be used to send the self-disclosure directly. The email has the subject line: "voluntary disclosure for Section 129 criminal association, reference number 326 Js 14549/22".

The text reads: "I see myself as a member and supporter of the last generation and would therefore like you to include me in your examinations." 129 StGB not. Nevertheless, I invite you to investigate me in order to be able to examine this in court."

However, the “Last Generation” also concedes that self-disclosure is “not without risk”, because even preliminary investigations can “entail unpleasant consequences, such as house searches”. Nevertheless, the suggestion follows: "If you can imagine taking the risk of criminalization together with us in a desperate attempt to protect our livelihoods, then show your support by reporting yourself!"

The calculation of the action is clearly stated: "The more people report themselves, the more difficult it is for the public prosecutor's office to actually investigate and the more we counteract the public image that we are the criminals!"

Climate activists from the group "Last Generation" sawed off the top of the Christmas tree in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Three people were taken into custody, police said.
