Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) has ordered a significantly increased manhunt in the border areas with the Czech Republic and Austria. Herrmann justified this on Thursday in Munich with the assessment of the Bavarian migration experts that "a further increase in unauthorized entries, especially via the Western Balkans route, can be expected in the coming months". The CSU politician described the EU's external border protection as "unfortunately still unsatisfactory".
The increased veil manhunt will therefore apply from Friday. The Bavarian border police are in close contact with the federal police, which also carry out searches in the border area. The Bavarian border police are supported in the measures by the riot police.
"With the increased manhunt controls, we will fight illegal migration and in particular the inhuman smuggling groups even more consistently," explained Herrmann.
He hopes that the tighter controls will provide more security, because not only will refugees be registered, but all those checked will also be checked by the police. "The police can often pull criminals out of the way."
According to their own statements, the Serbian police discovered 200 migrants in a makeshift camp near the Hungarian border. Several smugglers were also arrested. Authorities estimate that there are hundreds to thousands of people trying to get to western Europe via the Balkan route.
