It endorses the UN declaration on migration

Denmark has Monday acceded to the UN declaration on migration at a conference in Marrakesh.

Danish Prime minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen (V) was present when the declaration was approved by acclamation.

the UN declaration, which bears the name of Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, contains 23 broad goals or statements of intent - on international cooperation on migration.

Examples of the objectives is to collect and use data that will be used to develop policy interventions, as well as to improve accessibility and flexibility in means of access to legal migration.

Also contains the statement of objectives to strengthen the international response to the smuggling of migrants and to reinforce international cooperation and global partnerships for the safe, orderly and legal migration.

the Statement has been disputed, among others in Denmark.

VLAK-government contacts, the Danish people's Party, the only party in Parliament opposed that it endorses the declaration.

the Danish people's Party fears that Denmark is politically committed to ensure more legal migration from Africa. And to the declaration thus has an effect on Danish immigration policy.

It has Lars Løkke Rasmussen rejected. He believes that the statement, "do not change a comma in Danish immigration policy".

the Declaration is not legally binding. It is the government, the UN and the experts agree.

the Danish people's udlændingeordfører, Martin Henriksen, continue to believe that it is wrong. The declaration does, according to Martin Henriksen up to curtail the freedom of the press, and to increase opportunities for legal immigration.

Martin Henriksen, however, believes that it is positive that the government, with a particular explanation makes it clear how Denmark perceives the statement.

- If it had been a good statement, so we had not needed an explanation. But it is good that you go in and make reservations for the the worst thing.

- You take reservations for, you will not increase legal immigration. You clearly say in explanation of vote, that it is not something, like Denmark or other European countries will be obliged to, says Martin Henriksen.

Internally in the government there was long a doubt about who should accede to the declaration of Marrakesh on Denmark's behalf.

Both the immigration and integration minister Inger Støjberg (V) and the minister for development cooperation Ulla Tørnæs (V) rejected in the first place, they would take off.

Later, Lars Løkke Rasmussen state that the two ministers were in the game to go to Marrakesh, just as he himself and the minister for foreign affairs Anders Samuelsen (LA) it was.

In the end, the prime minister, so to take off in order to accede to the declaration.
