Analysts expect that mask sales will rise further as The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended this week that people who have been vaccinated return to wearing masks indoors in areas of the U.S. where cases are increasing.
According to the Adobe Digital Economy Index, sales of masks increased 24% in the week ending Tuesday compared to the previous week. This reversed weekly declines that had been occurring since May.
Coronavirus is particularly prevalent among unvaccinated people and states with low vaccination rates.
Given the uncertainty surrounding the virus, it is difficult for stores to decide how much to order.
