Consum commits to be neutral in emissions in 2030

The Valencian supermarket cooperative Consum has committed to being neutral in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. This includes the Cooperative's direct emissions from the organization's vehicles, fixed sources of emissions, as well as emissions generated due to refrigerant gas leaks (scope 1) and the emissions associated with the production of the electricity that Consum needs to carry out its activity (scope 2).

In addition, it highlights that it is the first Spanish supermarket chain to adhere to the Science Based Targets Initiative in January 2022 (SBTi for its acronym in English, Science Based Targets Initiative). The SBTi was born as a collaboration between the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the UN Global Compact and the Global Resources Institute (WRI).

Consum has reduced its carbon footprint by 84% since 2015, the year in which it made its first calculation, as a result of the incorporation of negative temperature refrigerant gases, fed with CO2 in the openings, the eco-efficient supermarkets and the improvement of the company's vehicles. logistics fleet. The TEO and Nodriza logistics projects have also contributed to this reduction in the carbon footprint, with savings of more than 8.3 million kilometers, such as investment in eco-efficient vehicles (gas and Euro6 engine), up to nearly 400 vehicles efficient and 29 with natural gas, explains the chain in a statement.
