“This show has no impact”: Drake slams hip-hop’s place at Grammy Awards

Like the Victoires de la Musique in France, the Grammy Awards are once again at the heart of the controversy. Do these ceremonies crown the best of current music? The one favored by the public? Or do they cover selections that are much more arbitrary and, the rappers believe, much less open to hip-hop. Drake is of this opinion and he once again denounced the Grammy organizers who lack consideration towards the genre.

“Remember, you incredible artists, that this show is useless,” he harangued on social networks. This is nothing more than the opinion of a group of people whose names remain secret. Congratulations to everyone who won an award for hip-hop, but this show has no impact on our world. In 2021, Drake asked the organizers of the ceremony to withdraw his name from the running in two “rap” categories with his album Certified Lover Boy. The Fake Love performer wanted to compete in the general categories.

Four years earlier, Drake had won two trophies with Hotline Bling: the Grammy for Best Rap Song and Best Performance of a Rap Song. Two prizes that he has already refused, because he felt that he had been selected in the rap category because of his skin color.
