Between 2005 and the small beginner festival housed in the Galerie des Terreaux and today's which takes its place in the magnificent Palais de la Bourse and several other emblematic places on the peninsula, what a long way we have come!

All the big names in international crime fiction have come at one time or another to rub shoulders with the loyal audience of the Quais du polar festival: James Ellroy, Henning Mankell, Michael Connelly, Richard Price, P.D.James, Jo Nesbo, John Grisham, Harlan Coben , Elizabeth George, Javier Cercas… In 2023, the festival attracted more than 90,000 visitors and the 20th edition should be even more popular.

The festival invited 135 authors from 15 countries. Among them, the Englishman Tim Willocks, the Scottish Val McDermid, the American stars John Grisham, Donna Leon and Dennis Lehane, the Italian Davide Longo, the Norwegian Jo Nesbo and a very strong contingent of French authors in which we find , among others, Michel Bussi, Maxime Chattam, DOA, Caryl Ferey, Hervé Le Corre, Ian Manook, Bernard Minier, Olivier Norek, Franck Thilliez… Without forgetting, like every year, authors on the fringes of crime fiction like Nicolas Mathieu, Marc Levy and Guillaume Musso.

From Friday April 5, the day of the Festival's inauguration, around ten crime fiction prizes will be awarded, including the Quais du polar/Le Figaro Readers' Prize, which includes six books in its selection (chosen by the Festival's partner booksellers), including those, spotted upon their release by critics, by Morgan Audic (No one dies in Longyearbyen, Albin Michel) and Marin Ledun (Free Queens, Série Noire).

Festival partner, Le Figaro will present several meetings.

Saturday April 6 at 10 a.m. at the Chapelle de la Trinité, Bruno Corty, editor-in-chief of Le Figaro littéraire, will welcome four French thriller authors (Michel Bussi, Karine Giebel, Bernard Minier, Franck Thilliez) on the theme, “Hot blood and sweat cold-focus on French thrillers.

At 11:30 a.m., at the Town Hall, Bernard Babkine, editor-in-chief of the book pages of Madame Figaro, will speak with Olivier Bal, Célien Denjean, Claire Favan and Nicolas Lebel on the theme “Blackmail, manipulation, revenge: when hell comes 'never ends'.

At 3:30 p.m., at the Palais de la Bourse, the same Babkine on the theme “From the femme fatale to feminine power” will bring together the French Benoit Collombat and Grégory Mardon, the American Megan Jennett and the Brazilian Patricia Melo.

Finally, Sunday April 7 at 10:30 a.m., Bruno Corty will be on board the Bateaux Lyonnais, quai des Célestins, for a literary cruise with Hervé Le Corre, master of the French novel, author of a formidable dystopia entitled Who will live after us.
