"The chapter is over": Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow drop Marvel

Invited by Gwyneth Paltrow in her podcast on April 18, Scarlett Johansson spoke about her future within the Marvel franchise. She integrated it in 2010 in the film Iron Man 2 by playing Natasha Romanoff, better known as Black Widow. His role has seen him appear in several superhero movies over the past decade. But no one is immortal: her character dies in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Her death does not prevent the actress from returning in 2021 in a prequel titled Black Widow. Nevertheless, the actress seems to have gone around the question. "I finished. The chapter is over. I did everything I had to do, she says at The Goop Podcast. To come back and play a character again and again, over a decade, is such a unique experience.”

A comment joined by Gwyneth Paltrow, who also plans to leave her Pepper Potts character: "I'm a little old to be in costume," explains the 50-year-old actress. A half-hearted surprise since the actress had already confided her future plans to Variety: “I feel very lucky to have done it because I was persuaded. I was friends with Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience to do the first Iron Man and then to see how important he became to the fans."

When Scarlett Johansson joined Marvel, Gwyneth Paltrow had already been there for two years. At the time, rumors swirled about the two actresses claiming that they didn't get along on the set of the film. A thesis defeated by Scarlett Johansson: “You were so nice to me on this film. I was so petrified. You've been so nice to me! You could have been horrible. I was so out of my comfort zone on this movie. I had never done anything like this before. Plus, you had made such deep friendships.”

His interlocutor admits to having been delighted to see another woman join this ultra-masculine universe. A feeling felt in turn by Scarlett Johansson on another shoot: “You kept telling me that. Then I experienced that later. When I did Avengers, I was one of the few [women]…it was like one big sausage party!”

Marvel Studios has two new movies scheduled this year: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 on May 3, followed by The Marvels in November.
