Death of composer Jean Musy, at 76, author of the music of Papy fait de la resistance, Les Champs-Élysées

Composer, arranger of songs and film scores, Jean Musy has worked on hundreds of melodies. He left us on Saturday April 27 at the age of 76, singer Anne-Marie David announced on Facebook. “I have the sad privilege of informing you of the death of Jean Musy. He passed away today... but I prefer to say that he was absent,” she wrote, saluting “rare human qualities.”

Born in Levallois-Perret on December 18, 1947, the musician collaborated with the greatest artists from Nino Ferrer, Joe Dassin to Barbara, including Véronique Sanson, Charles Aznavour, Françoise Hardy, Serge Reggiani and Gilbert Bécaud. French variety owes him the orchestration of many of its great songs, including the famous Les Champs-Élysées performed by Joe Dassin.

Cinema is not left out, Jean Musy having composed the music for Noce blanche (Jean-claude Brisseau with whom he worked on several feature films), Papy fait de la resistance (Jean-Marie Poiré), Vanille strawberry ( Gérard Oury), The Rainbow Thief (Alejandro Jodorowsky), Clair de femme (Costa-Gavras) to name but a few. For television, he will compose the music for the series The Man in the Night directed by Juan Luis Buñuel, the son of the Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel.

In 2016, Jean Musy was honored with the SACEM Grand Prix for music for images. For the occasion, the director and screenwriter Franck Appréderis who worked with him on the film Le Cœur à l’envers praised an artist who gives “extraordinary breath to the images.”
