Eminem releases new album this summer

Eminem has a sense of showmanship. In a video posted on social networks parodying a crime show, the rapper announced the release of his 12th studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) for this summer, Variety tells us.

The video was broadcast on the Internet, featuring a journalist talking about the death of Slim Shady, a fictional character that the rapper constructed at the start of his career. “Thanks to his complex and often criticized rhymes, the antihero known as Slim Shady had no shortage of enemies,” the reporter says in the trailer.

“He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath,” points out rapper 50 Cent, close to Eminem, in a short appearance. “His crude words and controversial escapades ultimately led to his downfall. Join me in recreating the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady,” the journalist continues. “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim,” says Eminem. Slim Shady is the dark alter ego of the rapper mentioned in 1997 in the album Slim Shady EP.

Eminem's last studio album, Music to Be Murdered By, dates back to 2020. In 2022, the rapper also released Curtain Call II, a compilation of his best tracks since his album Relapse, released in 2009. Since then, radio silence. Or almost. Eminem made do with a few notable appearances, notably during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2022, alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar. In July 2023, the rapper surprised fans, joining Ed Sheeran on stage at Ford Field in Detroit to perform Stan and Lose Yourself, two of his most listened to tracks on the platforms.

Eminem, with his album The Slim Shady LP, made a thunderous arrival in the world of rap, which included the hit My Name Is, with its dark and provocative humor. Known for his blistering flow, the Detroit artist consolidated his superstar status with the release of The Marshall Mathers LP in 2000, which became one of the best-selling albums in the United States. In 2022, he joins rappers Jay-Z, Tupac, Ice Cube and Grandmaster Flash, as well as his faithful producer and mentor Dr. Dre, in the rock pantheon, the famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
