Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 and S23 Ultra: more power and better camera but also more expensive

After weeks of rumors about the new Samsung S23, we finally know the details of the three terminals that will make up the premium family (along with the folding ones) of the Korean company. And many of these leaks are confirmed: the new Galaxy S23 works with the Qualcom Snapdragon 8 Gen2, improves the battery, camera, and yes, they also raise the price.

Following the line that Apple already marked with its iPhone last September, the South Korean technology giant does the same by increasing the price of all the models of its new S23 by approximately 100 euros compared to last year's equipment. In addition, it adds a new 1 Tb capacity model, which makes the maximum price of its top-of-the-range model shoot up to 1,829 euros. The cheapest, Galaxy S23 of 128 Gb starts at 959 euros.

The Korean lands in a turbulent 2023 after learning that 2022 was the worst year for the sale of smartphones in history, a situation promoted by the economic crisis, the blows of the pandemic and the lack of components.

Specifically, Samsung closed the fourth quarter of 2022 with a 69% drop in its operating profit and an 8% drop in revenue.

In the midst of this situation, the Korean company is confident in the proper functioning of the sales of its most premium range, a segment that seems to be on the rise while the lower-end terminals are the ones that are suffering the greatest drops in sales.

What's new? The new S23 family brings interesting improvements in terms of power and cameras, especially in the top model, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but Samsung has chosen to keep the same design as in the previous generation. Of course, the Korean raises the commitment to sustainability and has increased the use of recycled materials from six internal components in Galaxy S22 Ultra, to 12 internal and external components in Galaxy S23 Ultra. The rest of the Galaxy S23 range also features a greater variety of recycled materials than any other Galaxy smartphone, including pre-consumer recycled glass and aluminum and post-consumer plastics, sourced from discarded fishing nets, PET bottles and water barrels.

Likewise, the new S series is the first to incorporate Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, with an average of 22% recycled materials.

As for the appearance, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 have a small difference in the camera module, since the contour casing has been removed.

As for available colors, the Galaxy S23 series comes in four matte shades: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender.

In all three models, Samsung has decided to keep the same panel size as in last year's Galaxy S: 6.1 inches for the S23, 6.6 for the S23 and 6.8 for the Ultra model, although in the latter , the company is committed to a reduced curvature to create a larger and flatter surface- In addition, the Vision Booster function has been improved, which now adjusts to three lighting levels instead of two to combat glare and reflections in sunlight day.

In all three models, it is a 2x Dynamic AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

Samsung sets aside its own Exynos chip, to equip the new Galaxy S with Qualcomm's most powerful processor, Snapdragon 8 Gen2. The problems caused by Exynos seem to have caused the South Korean to bet on the Qualcomm chip in all versions of her equipment (in previous years, depending on the region, she used one or the other).

Therefore, now Samsung boasts of mounting one of the most powerful processors to date with a processing capacity approximately 30% greater than that of its predecessor. Another of the most significant improvements to the Galaxy S23 range is the optimized GPU, approximately 41% faster compared to the Galaxy S22 series.

Likewise, Galaxy S23 Ultra is prepared to support ray tracing in real time, so users will be able to see much more real scenes thanks to technology that simulates and tracks each ray of light. Plus, Samsung Galaxy's now larger vapor-cooling chamber on all Galaxy S23 series models ensures there's no slowing down the experience.

Autonomy also improves considerably compared to the S22 family. While the S23 goes up to 3,900 mAh, and the S23 at 4,700 mAh, the Ultra this year reaches 5,000 mAh with 45 W fast charging.

The main camera improvements in the new S23 are found in the Ultra model, which seems designed for professionals to get the most out of the image, since a good part of the improvements are focused on RAW mode.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra features a 200-megapixel Adaptive Pixel sensor that, thanks to pixel binning, supports multiple levels of high-resolution processing at once.

For more professional users who want more customization, the Expert RAW app, available exclusively on Samsung Galaxy, allows you to capture and edit DSLR-style images in RAW and JPEG, without the need for photographic equipment. Users can experiment with the new Multiple Exposure feature or capture a sharp image of the Milky Way with the Astrophotography settings (caution tripod required).

Samsung has also improved video recording thanks to the improved 8K mode at 30 frames per second with a wider angle.

Visual noise that often mars low-light images is corrected using a new AI-based Image Signal Processing (ISP) algorithm that improves object detail and color tone.

In addition, the Galaxy S23 series incorporates fast autofocus on the front camera and is defined as the first Super HDR selfie camera, which goes from 30 fps to 60 fps, for better front-facing images and videos.

The new Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra will be available from February 17 on carriers and online retailers and on Samsung.com.

As for the price, the Samsung Galaxy S23 starts at 959 euros with 128 storage, (100 euros more than the S22 model), while the S23 forgets about 128 Gb and starts directly at 256GB of capacity from 1,209 euros .

As for the Ultra model, it will be sold in three versions. S23 Ultra with 256 Gb of storage for 1,409 euros, with 512 Gb for 1,589 euros or 1 Tb for 1,829 euros.

In addition to the terminals, the Korean company has today presented the Galaxy Book3 series, its latest line of computers that includes the Galaxy Book3 Ultra, Book3 Pro 360 and Book3 Pro models. The Galaxy Book3 Ultra -Samsung's new premium range PC- Offering ultra-high computing performance, the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 features a 2-in-1 convertible form factor with S Pen functionality, and the Galaxy Book3 Pro features a thin and light clamshell design that puts mobility first.

The Galaxy Book3 Ultra will be available in 16 inches and in Graphite color. The Galaxy Book3 Pro will be available in 14 and 16 inches, in Graphite colors. The Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 will be available in 16 inches with the option of 5G connectivity, in Graphite and Beige colors. The Galaxy Book3 360 will be available in 13 and 15 inches, in Graphite color. Galaxy Book3 Pro, Pro 360 and 360 will be available from February 17, followed by Galaxy Book3 Ultra from February 22.
