Tschentscher congratulates Weil, Fegebank congratulates Hamburg

In the course of the evening of the election, after the trends in the projections had solidified - the SPD was declared the victor, the Greens and the AfD gained votes, while the CDU and FDP lost votes - Hamburg politicians also spoke up with their assessments .

Hamburg's Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) congratulated Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) on his electoral success. “Good choice in Lower Saxony. Congratulations to Stephan Weil,” Tschentscher tweeted. He spoke of a strong mandate for the SPD. "Dear Stephan, good luck in forming a government and we look forward to continued good cooperation in the north!"

Hamburg's second mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens) congratulated her party friends in Lower Saxony and Weil on the election result. She is also very happy for the Greens and their top duo Julia Willie Hamburg and Christian Meyer. "Now the signs are red-green, stable in difficult times!" she tweeted.

The CDU was present with an assessment immediately after the projections. Christoph Ploß, state chairman of his party in Hamburg, had a coalition tip ready: "Congratulations to Stephan Weil - the SPD has become the strongest force in Lower Saxony. For a secure energy supply, for real relief with rising prices and stability in the crisis, a government participation of the CDU would be the best alternative for Lower Saxony.

The AfD, on the other hand, was satisfied with itself: "As the fourth strongest force, the AfD will form a strong opposition and give the government a lot of steam. Whether energy, inflation, migration or corona crisis - the citizens feel the failure of the old parties and expect noticeable relief and solutions," said head of state Dirk Nockemann, who after nine lost state elections in a row recognized a "trend reversal in the west".

The FDP – as of 11 p.m. – and the left will not be represented in the state parliament in Lower Saxony. Representatives of both parties in Hamburg called for people to continue to "work hard" (Sabine Ritter, state spokeswoman for the left faction) and to show an even sharper profile (FDP state leader Michael Kruse).
