This is how Hamburg declares war on illegal parkers

They get in the way, block footpaths and cycle paths and thus become a nuisance and a danger point in the cityscape. Hamburg now wants to take stronger action against incorrectly parked e-scooters and e-bikes. The responsible authorities have commissioned the city cleaning to clear the scooters and bicycles out of the way. Until the end of the year, two teams will do nothing but clear away scooters and bikes at the hotspots. 13 other teams will also step in when scooters are reported.

In the pilot project, which started on Tuesday and is initially scheduled to run until December 31, the city cleaning employees set up the e-scooters and e-bikes parked in the way in the best possible and traffic-safe way. After the pilot project, the further procedure will be evaluated together.

The city cleaning department is happy about the order, said its managing director Rüdiger Siechau, because the parked e-scooters and e-bikes that obstruct traffic are also a major challenge for the city cleaning department in everyday life. According to Siechau, the employees encountered situations every day during their work that prevented them from fulfilling their tasks.

The employees move the e-scooters at the site by a maximum of 20 meters, e-bikes by a maximum of five meters. If no suitable location can be found in this area, position the e-scooters and e-bikes so that they obstruct traffic as little as possible. In addition, the employees document the situation on site in detail with photos and send a message to the respective rental companies so that they remove the scooters and bikes immediately.

The Hamburg Blind and Visually Impaired Association draws attention to the fact that incorrectly parked scooters and bikes can not only be annoying, but also dangerous. Among the hashtags

The outlines of e-scooters lying around are sprayed onto the pavement with chalk spray and the outline of a person who has fallen is adjacent to this – similar to the outline of a crime scene. In addition, videos are being created at all locations with blind/visually impaired people who are personally affected by the situation there. These are published together with the "crime scene photos" in the social networks.
