Stabbed clan member in Berlin – charges against two men

Around ten months after the fatal knife attack on a 25-year-old man from the Berlin milieu of Arab clans, charges of murder by insidious behavior have been brought against the alleged perpetrator. The 21-year-old is said to have killed his victim on April 30, 2022 at the "Neuköllner Maientage" fair with several stab wounds, as the public prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

A companion of the alleged attacker, then 19 years old, was charged with dangerous bodily harm and involvement in a fight. Investigations are underway against another man who is also said to have stabbed the 25-year-old.

According to the indictment, an argument with the victim is said to have led the accused and another man to attack the 25-year-old from behind. The 21-year-old and the third are said to have stabbed him, especially in his upper body. The 19-year-old is said to have hit the 25-year-old with his fist to injure him and impair his defense, it was said. Despite immediate help, the victim died on the night of the crime.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested at the airport in December after months of manhunt. He expected to be arrested and his lawyer had announced his return, a spokesman for the public prosecutor said at the time.

The deceased was buried in a cemetery in Berlin-Schoeneberg in May, accompanied by a large police force. Around 1,000 men attended, including members and heads of well-known Arab clans. The older brother of the dead man, Nidal R., who was shot, had already been buried in the same cemetery in the presence of around 2,000 men from the clan scene from all over Germany.

Nidal R. was shot dead in autumn 2018 in front of his family on Tempelhofer Feld. He was known to police as a repeat offender with ties to clans of Arab origin. So far, the police have not been able to arrest any perpetrators.
