Almost a year after the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, assets worth 5.32 billion euros have been sanctioned in Germany. This was announced by the Federal Ministry of Finance at the request of WELT AM SONNTAG.
The sum consists of assets of Russian “entities”, which include the Central Bank of Russia in addition to individuals and companies on the EU sanctions list. The ministry did not want to answer how high the frozen assets of the so-called oligarchs in Germany are.
The Central Office for the Enforcement of Sanctions (ZfS) is still under construction. So far, 36 employees have been working there, "further recruitment is being pushed forward continuously," said the Ministry of Finance. For "priority areas such as asset determination" the structures are "under construction".
Actually, according to the Sanctions Enforcement Act II, the ZfS should also keep a register of the frozen assets, which is published on the authority's website. So far, however, that has not happened.
"The entries can only be made when there is a secure investigation status," said the Ministry of Finance. "The technical implementation of the asset register has been initiated," it says.
