More tourists are coming to Hamburg again

More tourists and overnight guests are coming to Hamburg again – at least compared to the same period last year. Hamburg's accommodation providers reported 630,000 guests in September, according to the North Statistics Office in Hamburg on Monday. That was 35.9 percent more than in September 2021, but 5.4 percent less than in pre-corona September 2019.

The number of overnight stays, on the other hand, increased both compared to the same month last year and compared to September 2019. Almost 1.37 million overnight stays were registered in September of this year. That was 32.1 percent more than in September 2021 and 0.5 percent more than in September 2019.

The proportion of foreign overnight guests in particular has risen sharply. The guests from abroad had spent a total of 325,000 nights in the Hanseatic city. Most of them reportedly came from Denmark, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Austria.

For the statistics, the information from 421 open accommodation facilities with 77,000 beds was evaluated. The average bed occupancy was 58.7 percent. And the guests stayed in Hamburg for an average of 2.2 days.
