La Zubia's "Run for Parkinson's" will raise funds for people affected by this deadly disease

La Zubia will host the 8th pedestrian lap to La Zubia "Run for Parkinson's" on Sunday, May 29. This is a solidarity sport event that returns following the pandemic and raises funds for people who are not able to afford it.

This day was suspended in 2020-2021 and is being organized by the Parkinson Granada Association and the La Zubia City Council. It also has the support of the Granada Provincial Council as well as the La Zubia Athletics Sports Club. Nearly 600 people have registered for the test and you can still participate by joining a solidarity number.

Puri Lopez, the mayor of La Zubia, explains that the Sunday will be "totally festive" and that all proceeds will go to the Parkinson Granada organization to support people with Parkinson's disease and their caregivers.

The registration fee for adults is 8 euros and children's category 5 euros. It can be done on the same Sunday as the start of the test, from 9:45 AM to the end. The time taken to collect numbers is between 8.30 and 10 hours. The race begins at 10:30 am with circuit A. Next, the children's race will begin at 12:00 pm. The junior and junior races will follow at 12:15 pm. The race will conclude with the awarding of medals and trophies to the winners.

Miriam Espinola (Councilor for Sports of La Zubia) explains that the event has the goal of "making Parkinson's disease more known to the entire society; raising awareness about their daily struggles; supporting and promoting the activities of Parkinson Granada; and encouraging people with the disease feel that they aren't alone."

All the funds raised will also go to the solidarity fund of the association to provide the necessary therapies and services (physiotherapy, speech therapy, or occupational therapy) to those with Parkinson's.

Ana Rodriguez, who is the Parkinson Granada association manager, stressed the importance of this event in the annual activities. Competitors can be registered for professional runners, while participants who are not yet registered may participate in participatory. This allows them to walk the route or use a zero number.
