Eleven people were killed on the roads of Granada in the first six month of the year. This is one less than the same period last years. The first phase of the operation, which will transport around 117,000 vehicles in the province of Granada, has just begun. This is according to data from General Directorate of Traffic (DGT).
Weekend movements to beaches and other second homes will be added to these holiday movements. In the afternoon, the traffic management and regulation measures that favor vehicle circulation will be implemented during the night.
With the greatest human and technical resources available, the DGT will oversee the first exit operation. This is done in order to facilitate mobility and fluidity along the roads of the province, which are subject to large vehicle movements. The Traffic Management Center will monitor and report on traffic and roads throughout Eastern Andalusia. The DGT will also conduct alcohol and drug campaigns along all roads during the summer.
The DGT has highlighted speeding as a major cause of accidents, with or without fatalities, in recent years. Experts from the Ministry of the Interior claim that driving at a reasonable speed could prevent a quarter of the deaths.
The explosive combination of speeding and the danger of two-way streets is quite dangerous. Speed was the determining factor in 29% of these accidents. It is possible to avoid a lot of problems by not stepping too hard on the accelerator. In particular, if everyone lowered their speed by 5%, accidents with injuries can be reduced by 10% and fatal accidents could fall by as much as 20%.
