First a hand grenade was fired, then three people were attacked with a knife

A man is said to have injured three people with a hand grenade and a knife in Berlin-Reinickendorf. One of the victims, a 61-year-old, is in mortal danger, the Berlin police said on Saturday. A homicide commission took over the investigation into the attempted homicide late on Friday evening. The suspect was caught. The background is still unclear. First, the "Bild" newspaper reported on a bloody dispute.

"According to previous findings and investigations, a 61-year-old is said to have detonated a hand grenade in front of the entrance of an apartment building on Pankower Allee around 11:15 p.m., injuring two women aged 42 and 48 and a 61-year-old man," it said from the police. The suspect is said to have attacked one of the women and the man with a knife and inflicted further injuries on them.

According to the police, the attacker then fled to an allotment garden nearby. A hundred police officers arrested the man there and took him into police custody. There he was handed over to the homicide squad. The three injured were taken to hospitals.

So far it is unclear what the relationship between the attacker and the injured was, said a police spokeswoman. The investigation into the course of events and the background continued. According to the police, the alleged attacker is a Serb. The two women are also of Serbian nationality. The critically injured man comes from Bosnia-Herzegovina.
