In Hattenhofen (Göppingen district), according to the district administrator, an FDP local politician was injured by several shots. According to the police, the shots were most likely fired from outside through a window.
The 65-year-old district councilor was shot by an unknown person in his apartment early on Sunday morning, the police said on Monday. The victim was a farmer and politician from the Göppingen district council, the police also confirmed. The man was taken to a clinic. "There is no danger to life," it said.
The background to the crime is completely unclear, and there is no trace of the unknown shooter or shooters. The public prosecutor wants to comment on Monday.
The police formed a special commission and also wants to check whether there is a connection between the shots in Hattenhofen and shots that have been reported from other places in Baden-Württemberg over the past few weeks and that have also injured people.
"I am deeply affected and shocked by this act of violence," says District Administrator Wolff's letter to the members of the district council on the act in the approximately 3,000-strong community in the foothills of the Alb. Several media had previously reported on the shots.
FDP faction leader Hans-Ulrich Rülke said in a first statement: "I am appalled by the terrible news." His thoughts are now with the local politician and his family.
