After the discovery of a body stuck upside down in a manhole, the police arrested a suspect on the same day. The 40-year-old man was found in the apartment of the 46-year-old who was killed, as the police and public prosecutor's office in Cologne announced on Sunday.

According to information from the dpa news agency, the investigators assume that the nearby apartment is also the scene of the crime. Nothing was initially known about the more detailed background of the crime. According to the information, the alleged perpetrator is German, the victim Spanish.

According to "Bild", the dead man, who was stuck upside down in a manhole, was discovered by a young person early on Sunday morning on a country road near Cologne. An emergency doctor could only determine the death of the unknown man, said a police spokesman. The youth then had to be cared for by a pastor.

The body discovered on a country road in Niederkassel-Lülsdorf was covered with split, it was said. A wheelbarrow was discovered nearby, which may have been used to transport the split to the shaft.
