According to diplomats, the US government presented a draft for a Resolution to push for new elections, and international aid deliveries in the South American country in crisis. Russia spoke out immediately against the proposal.
In Venezuela for weeks in a fierce power struggle between the head of state, Nicólas Maduro and the opposition of Parliament President, Juan Guaidó, had to call in January to the transitional President. Meanwhile, around 40 countries have been behind Guaidó, among them the USA, Germany and other EU countries, as well as a number of South American countries. Russia is an important ally of Maduro.
The draft resolution, which was on Saturday, the AFP news Agency, calls for "full support" for the Venezuelan Parliament, which will be referred to as "the only democratically elected Institution" in the country.

The Text expresses "deep concern" over the violence against "peaceful and unarmed demonstrators" and calling for a "political process that leads to a free, fair and credible new presidential election". UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, is requested for such a process. The draft warns also against a worsening of the humanitarian situation and delivery of aid.
The U.S. government has according to the diplomat, still no date for a vote on the draft proposed. Negotiations were still under way. Russia has lodged an already vetoed the Text, and wants to present an alternative draft resolution, criticizing, among other things, interference in the internal Affairs of Venezuela. (sda)
