Ten years of Winnenden: openness instead of foreclosure

Ten years after the amok run of Winnenden has changed at the Albertville-Realschule, a lot. She remained in the old building and is now one of the most popular schools in the city.

In the light-filled auditorium of the Albertville-Realschule is in huge letters, the Motto, the students at the time, directly after the killing spree, even gave: "I have a dream..."

And a dream has also a headmaster, Sven Kubick: "A great dream is, of course, that manage to live together in our school and society. I hope that the students engage in volunteer activities, that they bear responsibility, and society shaping."

This was not a matter of course around nine years ago, as a Kubick took over the management of the school of his severely traumatized predecessor. "We were accommodated in containers. We had many students who were directly affected, and the completion had to allow what was under these conditions is very difficult," recalls Kubick. In addition, many of the teachers had witnessed the rampage directly.

For Kubick, it was clear that His school should be - even after the terrible fact, - open and bright. Sentries were out of the question. "We are a public building. We want this transparency. We also want to visit, that we, as parents, and the school without barriers can enter", explained the headmaster.
