Swedish supervision takes lots of coronafejl

Sweden has on Tuesday presented a major review of the management of coronavirus in the care of older people.

It shows that 40 of the country's 290 municipalities have been particularly vulnerable. 70 percent of the deaths related to coronaviruses in the care of older people is registered in the 40 municipalities.

It informs the Inspection för vård och care (Ivo), which oversees health in Sweden.

the Supervision has examined whether persons in nursing homes have been the appropriate treatment under coronaepidemien. And they haven't in a number of cases, points out the oversight.

- When it comes to Covid-19 in care of the elderly, we have received 171 risk information, which has a high degree of severity, " says Ivos director-general of the Sofia Wallström.

At the 91 nursing home supervision found error, which must be examined further, she adds.

- care of the elderly has stuck out in our national risk profile in the longer period of time, say Sofia Wallström.

Social affairs minister Lena Hallengren says that it is a thorough review, as Ivo has made of the country's elderly care.

- I do not think that any of us are surprised that there have been shortcomings, says Hallengren.

There is a reason to 'get to bottom' of what has happened in the 40 municipalities, where 70 percent of the deaths are registered, think Hallengren.

She points out that there should be comparisons with other municipalities, which are not equally severely affected and to find out what has gone wrong.

- It will be interesting to follow the authorities ' supervision, which has not yet been completed, says Lena Hallengren.

In Sweden there is a registered 5433 deaths to the coronavirus. 73.061 people are confirmed infected.
