Kessler saved the big secret: I have never told

It was his biggest night in his career. Although he was undefeated, it was his opponent, Joe Calzaghe, too.

In Cardiff at the Millenium Stadium in front of 50,000 spectators fought Mikkel Kessler for the three WORLD championship belts in the super middleweight by the WBO, the WBC and the WBA.

the Fight earned him 27 million Danish crowns, but Kessler had to take from Wales with his first defeat. Calzaghe won 3-0 in dommerstemmer.

Now reveals Kessler for TV2, that the run-up to the match was marked by great uncertainty. For he had broken his hand one month before the showdown against the welsh giant. Something he never previously told.

It happened in a sparringssession, where Kessler could feel something was wrong. But it was only after the defeat to Calzaghe, he found out that it actually was broken.

In the first place, it was all about, that it is not leaked to the press or the Calzaghe camp. So Kessler denied everything, as the press had got wind that there was something with his hand.

He could be in a period of time not beating, but a cancellation was never any question.

- I would not cancel the fight because of the problems with my hand. So would the fight not be for nothing. Joe Calzaghe had already postponed the fight once in the past due to illness. So I would not pipe.

- I got a doctor to give me a local anaesthetic in the hand, so I didn't noticed something to the hand during the fight. So there was no reason to complain or come up with bad excuses, says Kessler to TV2 and points out that he has not felt hampered by it during the fight.

Kessler had problems with his hand several times after the fight, in Wales, and also had to be operated on. After the defeat to Calzaghe fought Kessler further nine matches. Which two major battles against the british Carl Froch in 2010 and 2013, with the last fight against Froch was also his last.

In 2017, it emerged that Kessler would make a comeback, but it went in the sink when he was bitten by a tick and was diagnosed with borrelia as a result of the bidet.
