Giant museum on the way in Egypt: Costs more than 6.5 billion

Just under 2.3 billion.

So much has the egyptian authorities so far counted wrong, since they for more than a decade ago calculated how much the country's upcoming giant-museum that will pay tribute to the pharaohs of ancient Egypt, would cost.

the Museum by the name of The Grand Egyptian Museum, which was estimated to cost 650 million dollars (4,25 billion), but which has now risen to no less than a billion dollars (6.5 billion euros), has been hit hard by delays in the course of the last more than ten years, but now the authorities have put the date on the opening.

According to the news agency, which has spent weeks on to get the military's permission to visit the upcoming giant-museum, it will open in 2020.

It's president Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, who is the front man on the project, which is being built by the company Orascom, which is mainly being financed by Japan.

Thus borrowed the japanese authorities in Egypt 320 million u.s. dollars (2.1 billion) in 2006 and 450 million dollars (2.9 billion) in 2016. It is estimated that the museum, which will showcase Egypt's ancient history, and which will be filled with more than 50,000 artifacts – including the famous Tutankhamun-mask of gold, which today is regarded as a kind of icon of the egyptian faroer - will attract no less than eight million tourists a year.

the Museum is located at the Gizaplateauet in Giza, which is one of the world's most well-known historical sights.

- It is a place where you can hang out and enjoy the antique Egypt, " says project manager Tarek Tawfik to the AP about the attraction, which in addition to the antiques will consist of a conference center, a cinema, 28 shops, 10 restaurants and a hotel with views of the historic pyramids in the area.

Many tourists have in recent years chosen Egypt because of the political unrest, but the country is beginning to be a more popular holiday destination again.

According to the AP, it is assessed, however, that ’only’ eight million tourists will have visited Egypt in 2018, which is significantly less than the average of the 14.7 million a year before the country's political unrest and the associated turistkrise began in 2011.
