US Foot: Louis Rees-Zammit met the Kansas Chiefs and joined Roc Nations Sports, Jay-Z’s agency

Young Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit (22) announced in mid-January that he was leaving rugby union to try to make a career in American football in the United States. The former Gloucester Premiership player had “accepted an invitation to join the NFL International Player Pathway (IPP)”, a gateway for high-level athletes to join the prestigious North American league.

Louis Rees-Zammit has reportedly received three contract offers from NFL franchises: the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Denver Broncos. He would be offered no less than 900,000 dollars (827,000 euros) per year to register for the summer training camp of one of these three franchises. On Tuesday, he also visited the Kansas City Chiefs, who recently won the Super Bowl. According to information from the British site Rugby Pass, the Welshman would also be of interest to the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose owner is Shahid Khan who also owns the Fulham football club in England.

At the same time, Louis Rees-Zammit joined the Roc Nation Sports agency, run by American rapper Jay-Z, a company aimed at advising high-level athletes on their image, their choices or their career. Some renowned rugby players have joined this agency: New Zealand third row Ardie Savea, South African winger Cheslin Kolbe or the English Maro Itoje, Marcus Smith or Ellis Genge.

“I decided to sign with Roc Nation Sports and agent Kim Miale to represent me in my NFL draft and negotiate my contract on the field. It was an easy choice to select an agency that could properly defend my new career in the NFL while understanding the importance of what I did as a rugby player,” commented the former XV du Leek player. .
