Novak Djokovic made sure to finish the year in first place in the world, after his victorious entry into the ATP Masters, his Spanish runner-up Carlos Alcaraz no longer being able to mathematically challenge him for this status, whatever the outcome of the test.
The 36-year-old Serbian, who beat the Dane Holger Rune on Sunday during the first day played in Turin, will end the season on the world throne for the 8th time in his career, a new record. He did the same in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2021.
“Djoko” is also assured thanks to this success of becoming the first player in history to reach the symbolic figure of 400 weeks spent at the top of the ATP ranking.
Whatever the outcome of the last tournament of the season, his runner-up Carlos Alcaraz can no longer catch up with him in terms of accounting.
Note that the German Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune have moved up to 7th and 8th places.
On the French side, Ugo Humbert, up three places to 20th, consolidated his status as N.1 tricolor, by climbing into the Top 20 for the first time in his career, on the strength of his victory on Saturday at the ATP 250 tournament in Metz.
Adrian Mannarino, with his title gleaned in Sofia, climbed three places to 22nd position.
At 35, he returned to the best ranking of his career, reached for the first time in 2018.
