Is the succession of legend Novak Djokovic already assured in Serbia? Hamad Medjedovic in any case carries the hopes of the Balkan country. Winner of the ATP Next Gen this Saturday, in the final against Frenchman Arthur Fils, the 110th player in the world did not fail to send a message to his model after his success. “We both come from Serbia. Novak Djokovic won the big Masters, the real one, and I won the Next Gen. Obviously, it’s a huge thing and I’m happy to follow in his footsteps in a way,” declared the 20-year-old tennis player, immediately congratulated by the man with 24 Grand Slam titles.
Via a story shared on his Instagram account, “Djoko” showed his support with the messages “Hame” and “Idemo” (“Let’s go” in Serbian) to give strength to his young compatriot. The special relationship between the two players is nothing new since Djokovic greatly believes in Medjedovic's potential. As proof, a year and a half ago, the recent winner of the Masters decided to finance the career of the Serbian hopeful. “All Hamad has to do is work hard, I'll take care of the rest. When he succeeds, you will take someone under your wing and help him in the same way,” the “Djoker” had promised Medjedovic’s father. The latter seems, for the moment, to be following the right path to follow in the footsteps of his idol.
