Tennis: Djokovic beaten after 43 consecutive victories in Australia

Novak Djokovic is no longer invincible on Australian soil. The Serbian was defeated by local Alex de Minaur on Wednesday (6-4, 6-4) in the quarter-final of the United Cup, a mixed team competition played in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney. This defeat, the first since January 15, 2019, ends an incredible series of 43 victories in Australia.

After Djokovic's setback, Serbia found itself trailing 1-0 by Australia. On Tuesday, the world No.1 had to give up the decisive mixed doubles against the Czech Republic due to discomfort in his right wrist. Not reassuring less than two weeks before the Australian Open in Melbourne (January 14-28), a tournament that he has won ten times and of which he is the title holder.
