Table tennis: Alexis Lebrun beats his brother Félix (again) and wins the French championships

Félix's first official victory against his big brother will wait. At the end of a high-flying French championship in Montpellier, Alexis Lebrun (20 years old), the eldest, once again surpassed his younger brother Félix (17 years old), this time in the final of the French championships (11-3, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 16-14).

Just a few hours after their victory in the doubles tournament, the Lebrun brothers found themselves in the final of the singles tournament after two successes in seven sets in the semi-finals. This match, always special, pitted the elite of European table tennis against each other. Félix Lebrun occupies 5th place in the world rankings, ahead of his brother Alexis (22nd), who however retains the psychological advantage over his younger brother. The latter has never yet defeated him on the professional circuit...

Rebelote this Sunday, since Alexis has once again taken the upper hand. From the first exchanges, he targeted the backhand and the elbow play of his younger brother, the latter showing himself impatient and frustrated after losing the first two sets in just over ten minutes of play (11-3, 11- 6). While Alexis led once again in the third set, Félix finally woke up at the end of the set to win this one (11-8), then equalized at two sets all thanks to a well-controlled fourth set (11 -9).

Félix's rise to power, although worrying for his brother - who remained focused in his match - proved insufficient. Alexis knew how to resist in defense and multiplied the classy gestures in attack to finally easily win the fifth set (11-5), then saved eight set points from his brother in the final set to finally win 16-14 .

Just moments after his second match point, won by Alexis, the 20-year-old jumped on the table to celebrate his victory. For his part, Felix, perhaps affected by this new defeat against his older brother, was in tears, inconsolable. Despite Alexis' efforts to comfort him after the match, with pats on the shoulder and shy hugs, Félix remained dejected. “To have a great match, it takes two,” Alexis noted after the match, before thanking the public for the “incredible support” and “the crazy atmosphere.”

At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the two brothers will try to set the table again and try to create a feat against the Chinese armada in the hope of leaving with one, or even medals. But the task promises to be difficult.
