Salernitana, bottom of the Italian Championship, will be led by a fourth coach this season with the arrival on Tuesday of Stefano Colantuono, who will, according to the press, be assisted by former French international Franck Ribéry.
“Salernitana announces that it has relieved Fabio Liverani and his staff of his duties,” announced the Salerno club which has only won two matches this season in the league.
“Technical responsibility for the team has been entrusted until the end of the season to Stefano Colantuono who has already coached the club in 2017-18 and 2021-22,” the press release continued.
Colantuono, who notably managed Atalanta (2010-15) and Torino (2019-20), is the fourth coach of Salernitana who started the season under the orders of the Portuguese Paulo Sousa, sacked in October.
Former Italian international Filippo Inzaghi succeeded him before being relieved of his duties on February 11 and his successor Fabio Liverani only remained in office for a little over a month.
The garnet club is heading straight towards the 2nd division: with its 14 points in 29 days, it is eleven points behind 17th place, synonymous with maintenance, occupied by Empoli.
He has been stuck in 20th place in Serie A since the 9th day, last place which he briefly abandoned after his second victory of the season on December 30 in Verona (1-0).
According to Sky Sport, Ribéry, who ended his playing career at Salernitana in 2022 after stints with OM (2005-07), Bayern Munich (2007-19) and Fiorentina (2019-21), will be part of coaching the first team.
